In the visual arts, a picture is worth a thousand words. But in the world of documentary filmmaking, a thousand words are just the beginning of what you’ll need to put that picture into its proper perspective.

Client Feedback

“Our experience with the Community Media Center was extremely beneficial to the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan. We were able to utilize several facets that are offered at the CMC and feel that these were instrumental in educating the community about mental illness. We never realized the impact the CMC has in our community until we were receiving phone calls daily from viewers. Our community is extremely fortunate to have the CMC available to us. ”

Christy Buck, Executive Director, Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan

The WYCE Legacy Project

The WYCE Legacy Project image

88.1 FM WYCE announces two new radio programs beginning Sunday nights this fall.  These new shows aim to unearth music you haven’t heard in years – or maybe missed altogether.

Sundays from 6 to 8 pm, host Ogie Dreyer presents Legacy, an historical look at the world of music that inspired today’s progressive radio.

Then from 8 to 10 pm, join host Mike Scot for The British Infusion – a look at how early American roots music influenced British culture and sparked a revolution.

These shows are part of an overarching program we're calling The Legacy Project, an effort to preserve your music that has lost its home on the radio.

You can participate!  The Legacy Project needs your vintage music - CDs, LPs or 45s - for archival and potential addition to our new Sunday night programming!

More information on the Legacy Project is available at wycelegacy.blogspot.com, or by contacting Matt at (616) 459-4788 extension 110 or

Remembering To Not Forget

Wealthy Theatre would have be nothing without the heroic actions of the South East Economic Development (SEED) organization.  Literally: the SEED organizers saved the theatre from the wrecking ball.  What would the property be now, if the theatre had been demolished?  A Wal-Mart?  Shudder to think.  Better simply to say "thank-you" to the folks who organized the movement, and saved the Wealthy Theatre District, in the 1990s.  Those who have the pleasure of visiting, living, working, or recreating in this neighborhood... are in your debt.

SEED and local proptery owners

This photograph (above) is archived at CMC Lending Library, collected as part of a retrospective video that CMC is creating to honor the history of the Wealthy Theatre District.  Special thanks to Craig Nobbelin, Rebecca Smith-Hoffman, Carol Moore and Rhonda Baker for their advice and contributions to the archiving project.

Excuse me - *WHOSE* WYCE skull cap is it, Papi?

Posted 11/7/2008

I was on the phone with a surfer friend from Grand Haven, talking about the upcoming Unsalted & The Concusssions event at Wealthy Theatre.  Very excited to discover a dozen of his surfer friends are coming to GR to see this music and concert extravaganza, on Thursday.  Out of the blue, my little lad (Julian) came up and hijacked my cherished WYCE skull cap - and he proceded to put it on!  I had a camera nearby and wanted to share HIS new skull cap ;-)

Coleman A. Young Foundation Launch image

The CMC IT Team is proud to announce the launch of www.CAYF.org the new web presence for the Coleman A. Young Foundation of Detroit. The site not only helps communicate their organization and their great work with students from Detroit, it also helps streamline their work. People can now apply for any of their programs online, nominate an outstanding educator for the "Detroit Educator of the Year" award, and those accepted to the scholarship program can now handle all of their paperwork online. It also provides an area where past and present participants in the scholars program can connect with each other through a message board system for advice, support, or just general conversation.

How Sweet It Is

How Sweet It Is image

Our builder, Bill Bainbridge, is going to fix our fallen flagpole later this week.  In the mean time, to commemorate Election Day, we flew the flag in the Lobby... right below our brand new neon that commemorates late CMC Founding Director Dirk Koning. The Koning Micro-Cinema opened earlier this year: in that short time, it has become as popular as our main theatre, Peter Wege Auditorium.
